At the east end of Hope Valley, Hathersage is a popular village with rich historical, industrial, and literary associations. It is perfect to visit for those in search of literary heroes. You can find the grave of Little John, Robin Hood's right-hand man, by the south door of St Michael's Church, and North Lees Hall is said to have been the inspiration for Thornfield Hall in Jane Eyre.
The village was also a key place for the manufacture of millstones, needles, and pins, however, it is now renowned for the location amongst the natural beauty of the Peak District. The village sees thousands of tourists every month due to its campsites, local pubs, and climbing and outdoors community. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the walk, hike, and cycle routes nearby, and wind down at the outdoor swimming pool, which has been open since 1936, where you can swim and look up at the hills all around you.
