The process of finding hidden talent
What is headhunting? Simply put, it is the process of identifying and engaging with talent that is completely passive or even invisible in the employment market. Headhunted candidates are not actively looking for a job. One of the success measures of a search firm is their ability to turn the heads of candidates who aren’t “on the market” for work and build them into an active prospect for their client’s shortlist.
Ensuring long term success
A cautionary note – make sure you and your search partner are skilled at understanding the motivational drivers of any head-hunted candidates. Why is this important? Well, at a default level at least, headhunted candidates didn’t have the initial motivation to be interested in the role they were approached for. Consequently, all parties need to satisfy themselves that the motivators of the candidate are aligned with the deliverables of the role to ensure any appointment is likely to succeed in the long-term.
